NAERIC Versatility Ranch Horse Stake
is a stake class, held in conjunction with an AQHA approved show or special event, for 3 year old registered Quarter Horse, Paint Horse and Appaloosa horses sired by NAERIC-member owned stallions.
Stallion nomination fees are due each foaling year. NAERIC-registered foals, by nominated stallions, are eligible to compete. The highest placing horse by a nominated stallion will receive the 1st place purse, followed by 2nd placing horse, etc.
As the popularity of Versatility Ranch Horse Competition continues to grow so too does the NAERIC Versatility Ranch Horse Stake. A list of nominated stallions for each coming competition year can be found by clicking on the "All Nominated Stallions" link below.
The Versatility Ranch Horse competition is one horse, with one rider competing in 5 different classes. Ranch Riding shows the horses` ability to move at a working speed with a rider. Ranch Trail is an obstacle course designed to show a horse`s ability and willingness to perform several tasks that might be asked of him during the course of a normal day`s ranch work. Ranch Cutting involves cutting a single numbered cow from the herd and the horse must demonstrate its ability to work the cow. Working Ranch Horse combines the ability of the horse to rein, handle cattle and put its rider in the position to rope and stop a cow. The final class is Ranch Conformation where the judge evaluates the horse for balance, structural correctness and movement with appropriate breed and sex characteristics.
